We decided this morning we was going on a scavenger hunt. The item most wanted/needed "LemonGrass".
Florida has many beautiful State Parks scattered across our state. We took a drive over to the Ichetucknee State Park ,as we drove through the park we almost hit a deer. We couldn't walk down to the water having Buddy with us, maybe another time.
Then we drove over to O'Leno State Park, this park is awesome. We wouldn't mind hosting here at all.
This bridge sways as you walk across it.
River is very low. Tree roots should be
under the water.
This definitely a place to check on hosting at. All the campers/hikers we encountered just loved the park and the cabins.
On over to Alachua to check out San Felasco State Park. We are not sure we was at the correct place. All we saw was bike and horse trails. Entrance was behind a industrial park. After calling the Devils Millhopper Park for assistance. We was told to call Mon-Friday 7am -12pm to speak to a ranger.
We will try to call and speak with Ranger Randy Brown this week. Back on the road to look for the Lemongrass plant. We decided to stay on 441 and head in towards Gainesville and see if any nursery's was open. Being Sunday most places are closed. We passed a place that was open, turned around and played chase with the owner ( she went one way and I went the other seeking each other out) Connected at the front steps and YES she had Lemongrass plants. Thumbups I was happy, she offered to repot and add soil and fertilizer for me. Yes, thank you so much. No need for me to go buy these items if she could help me out. Now, we have the plant re potted and good fert. in it. all for $5.00 a happy camper I am.
We was just going to ride around the rest of the day and stop/look at whatever took our fancy,no particular direction a long as we headed due north at some point. We find some interesting sights on back roads.
I have a fascination with old Oak trees.
Amazes me the elements endured and years these trees have stood .
Not many huge trees like this left.
I thought the bottlebrush plant in bloom was so pretty.
Gil worked very hard with Ranger Dylan to build the fill station for the fire trucks at Ranger Dylan's house.
He also finished the walk this week, stone pads leveled and gravel put in. Cutting the timbers for edging with a chainsaw and the rebar with a sawsall. He did pretty darn good. It makes it very easy now for any host to walk over to the restrooms and keep them clean or assist a park visitors
Our time is almost up here.We will surely miss Ranger Dylan and Dozer, as well as Ranger Gary. It will be interesting to see the changes other host make while we are off on our other adventures.
In our time here, I feel like we have accomplished most of the major task's Ranger Dylan asked us to do.
Water pipe repaired and secured by the kiosk. (Needs to be insulated for winter still) Fill station made, walkway redone to restrooms, Restroom doors treated for rust and repainted, restroom floors scrubbed ( by hand to get germicide off the floors) Power washed the restroom building on the outside.
We cut up/down 26 trees on the trails while we were here. Repainted blazes on the trails,
Super blowed the fire lines for a prescribed burn. Pumped out the Claves's(porta potty) at Little Shoals and the Horse Pasture, Recharged the batteries for each.. Worked on the hand blower( muffler keeps falling off) Picking up the trash left behind on the trails. Helped put up" no swimming signs",and hang signs for the Festival. Reorganized the storage area. Halloween and Christmas separated and put on own rack. Extra supplies are organized and easily managed now.
The Jon Deere Gator is in need of some serious overhaul. Being stranded on the trails is not fun. Hopefully, the Gator gets the attention it needs before we return next year. Put a new battery in the 4 wheeler and the mower. Mowed the entire park and put out weed killer. Painted the Handicap sites and the lines/arrows in the road with marker paint. Many smaller projects too numerous to mention.
